The Kindle Fan Guide
The Amazon Kindle is an amazing ebook reader. It has a few idiosyncrasies, but it does its job well.
The Kindle Fan Guide is a comprehensive user guide for the Amazon Kindle, complete with all the fun tips and info gathered by Kindle users over time. Whether you're just curious about the Kindle, or you've ordered or have one and want to get the most out of it, the Kindle Fan Guide is literally for you.
This book documents every piece of information I know about using the Kindle in all its versions (Kindle 1, Kindle 2, Kindle DX, and Kindle International), from keyboard shortcuts to changing the screen saver to the hidden Minesweeper game. Yes, the hidden Minesweeper game.
There are three versions of the Kindle Fan Guide available:
- Buy a Kindle edition for $5.
- Buy a physical book for $11. I'll pocket about $5 from this, incidentally.
- Download the PDF for free. Please consider buying a copy if you like it.
This is the fifth edition of the Kindle Fan Guide. Many thanks to the members of the Amazon Kindle Forum for their feedback, which made this edition possible.
The second edition was mostly a fix of typos and other minor inaccuracies in the first edition. The third edition added information about software updates, the need for a U.S. credit card, USB recharging, adding an SD card, and a note about the accuracy of PDF conversion. The fourth edition added links to jacksonunit.googlepages.com/kindleunit and evdomaps.com, fixed a reference to four signal bars instead of five, added directions to unmount before unplugging and how to change the font size in the web browser, clarified Whispernet's coverage area and the workings of E Ink, and added a comment about the speaker's audio quality. The fifth edition added information about Kindle 2, Kindle DX, and International Kindle; added a link to http://www.zoolert.com/kindlemart, and removed references to the defunct NowNow service.
