Anime & Manga News for the week ending 15 November 2009

without comments

AnimeNation.net: There’s a new trailer up for the OVA of Darker Than Black.

ANN: Funimation has added the first few episodes of several shows to its website: Casshern Sins, the awesome kendo action/comedy Bamboo Blade, and Romeo x Juliet (Romeo flying a pegasus!). Plus more episodes of a whole slew of shows, from Devil May Cry to Sgt. Frog. There are also large swaths of Soul Eater online.

ANN: The CGI film of Astro Boy garnered US $1.6 million this past week, battling a mild opening with fairly strong returns as it continues its theater run. It’s now made more than Ponyo made in theaters, though that’s not saying much (and Ponyo‘s made $200 million worldwide).

ANN: If you’re a fan of Hikaru Utada, and you live in the U.S., you’re in luck! She’ll be touring the U.S. in January and February, covering basically the west coast, north, and east coast.

ANN: Hey, Eva fans! Evangelion 2.0 won the Lyon Asian Film Festival award in the animation category, “narrowly” beating out Symphony in August, which I’ve never heard about but really want to see now that I see it’s about kids playing musical instruments.

ANN: 4Kids isn’t doing so well. They lost US $5 million in the third quarter of this year. ANN has a huge post about it, dissecting all the financial news. Really, it’s not too bad; they’re recovering from a disastrous year, and Yu-Gi-Oh! continues to do well.

ANN: Following in the tracks of K-ON!, the OP for To Aru Kagaku no Railgun was the #3 CD single of the week when it debuted. So…cool!

AnimeNation.net: Wanna watch the first 10 minutes of the upcoming CGI sci-fi anime film TO? Head on over to this YouTube video to check it out.

AnimeNation.net: Have you seen gameplay footage from that awesome Dante’s Inferno game? Well, EA’s commissioned a bunch of anime guys to make an animated film based off it (kinda like The Animatrix, looks like). Go here to check out the trailer.
