Anime & Manga News for the week ending 8 November 2009

without comments

ANN: Marvel fans, listen up! The Madhouse adaptations of Iron Man and Wolverine will come out in Japan in mid-2010! So, um, you have a while to wait. Sorry.

AnimeNation.net: The Japanese government will be honoring several anime industry insiders this fall. Among them: Joe Hisaishi, composer for most Studio Ghibli films (and Venus Wars).

ANN: Media Blasters licensed Queen’s Blade, the infamous just-this-side-of-hentai fighting girls series from last season, as well as the new Ikkitousen. So, betting on boobies to keep the company afloat. Both will get a dub, and a release by spring of 2010.

AnimeNation.net: Because I love going deeper (not in that sense! Filthy perverts…), I want to make sure to mention a very cool, in-depth analysis of Hayao Miyazaki’s Nausicaa of the Valley of Wind manga. AnimeNation.net links to this very detailed explanation of exactly why Nausicaa is considered so cinematic.

AnimeNation.net: If you own a PS3 and you want a bit more serious, seinen anime in your life, you’re in luck: the first 6 episodes of the austere horror show Monster are now available on the Playstation Network at $2 per episode.

ANN: And if you love serious, seinen anime, you probably already love Ghost in the Shell. Good news! Kodansha is launching two new GitS manga, both based on the Stand Alone Complex TV series. One looks to be a manga adaptation of the TV show, while the other will be a gag manga focusing on the Tachikoma (inspired by the ”Tachikomatic Days” on the DVDs).

AnimeNation.net: Never got a chance to see the glorious anime film Metropolis? Watch it online for free, with the English dub, thanks to Crackle.com!

WSJ: Adam Sheehan is the awesome guy you almost always see running the Funimation panels at conventions. The Wall Street Journal has a short but content-rich (as usual for the WSJ) interview with him, particularly about his background in the anime industry.
